About the Fundraiser

Who are we? (<--Click for info.)

As Louis Pasteur said, "Science knows no country, because knowledge belongs to humanity, and is the torch which illuminates the world. Chance Favors only the Prepared Mind."

Kaushal Edu-tainment Youth & Society Trust a.k.a., K.E.Y.S. Trust, is about creating that chance for change & survival against climate change and related environmental issues. It is about value addition for social transformation & being that torch for India by preparing young minds for the inevitable.

What do we do? (<--Click for info.)

The primary objectives for which K.E.Y.S. Trust is raising funds through this campaign are:

1. To raise awareness on Climate Change by way of local interventions focused on Air Pollution in college & school students (youth), and in local communities in Delhi through youth volunteers,

2. Highlighting the impacts & causes of Air pollution in Delhi as a means to take corrective collective community action (surprisingly they are the same as with the global crisis that is Climate Change),

3. To identify & work on potential opportunities for change & sustainability, as well as to adapt & mitigate potential threats to future generations that may reduce quality of life & damage the environment further.

Why are we needed? (<-- Click for info.)

Primarily, Climate Change is the biggest threat to all life on earth & the human way of life. Every aspect of the environment that is affected in turn affects human life. We do not live in silos but within finite ecosystems within the finite resources of Planet Earth.

However this is not a concept that is familiar and understood by the general public in Delhi, for whom local issues that impact them immediately are far more relevant. So we work on all related environmental and social issues that are part of the larger Climate change picture. Currently air pollution is the biggest concern for citizens in Delhi.

Test your Climate Quotient to check how aware you are by taking the Climate 4 Change Quiz (<-- Click here)

[Your responses, the correct responses & their explanation will be emailed to you. This quiz is to understand how much you know & may help you realize why youth need to know what is to come. Your responses & information are completely confidential & will not be divulged to any third parties or used for any commercial purpose.]

Secondarily, a sense of self-

Where are we now?

As of December 2016 we were at 404.25 ppm CO2 in the atmosphere & as of May 2017 we crossed 410 ppm. Global experts say when we cross 420 ppm we will face climate chaos, as the world would warm up by 2-4 degrees Celsius & climate anomalies would escalate. Our environmental & social problems have its roots in our unsustainable living.

Representation of the world at +4 degrees Celsius

Main effects of Climate Change on our systems & nation:

1. Heat Waves
2. Sea Level Rise
3. Floods
4. Drought
5. Infectious diseases
6. Glacier Melts
7. Agriculture & Food Security
8. Extreme weather conditions...Cyclones, Quakes, Cloud Burst, Flash floods, etc.

Locally in Delhi NCR, air pollution is the major cause for concern currently. Short-term air pollution can aggravate the medical conditions of individuals with asthma and emphysema. Long-term health effects can include chronic respiratory disease, lung cancer, heart disease, and even damage to the brain, nerves, liver, or kidneys.

The worst affected are children and elderly and people with chronic respiratory and cardiac issues. It also reduces life span and impacts health of the rest of the healthy population drastically same as with Climate Change.

Mini research resource list (Click to open):

The problem of Climate Change is not the regular change in weather, but of the change of weather to extreme weather anomalies and their after effects as a result of human action and intervention. However, it is not an issue that is understood by the general public. The immediate connected issues include, air pollution, water pollution, water scarcity, increasing solid waste, health and sanitation issues etc.

A lot of the causes of air pollution are largely also contributors to Climate Change. A lot of the effects of air pollution on health are the same as of Climate Change. K.E.Y.S. Trust is based in the heart of India, in the capital city of Delhi. Delhi happens to be one of India’s most polluted, bureaucratic, public health & safety lacking states. This is where we have taken a stand to ‘Be the Change’ by working with youth and communities of interest for societal transformation.

How do we do it? (<--Click for info.)

We plan to run hands-on learning workshops, outdoor activities, film screenings, field trips, youth community based citizen science projects, community engagement projects, seminars, guest lectures by experts, audits, etc., to achieve our goals with colleges and schools and create impact.

Scientific Approach: Kolb & Fry Model of Experiential Learning for Holistic Development

Volunteership & Youth engagement

When does it begin?

It already has. For the past 2 years we have studied the situation in-depth in terms of the current education system & its shortfalls, we have explored problems and potential alternatives to remedy them & have networked to build a robust partner ecosystem of professionals, experts & institutions to support our work.

We are already working with students of multiple colleges. We are in the process of expanding into at least 10 other colleges working with NSS, Enactus, Film clubs, Eco clubs, etc., & are to work with 2 schools in Delhi that have expressed an interest in being a part of the change.

In April 2018, we start work with under privileged kids in government school schools on the #Action4Air Program if sufficient funds become available. The objective is to  educate and share information about Air pollution in Delhi, its causes, its effects, how it can be reduced, what practically can be done, what precautions can be taken etc. In doing so we also tackle Climate Change and build up momentum on raising awareness about Climate Change. We will engage with the kids in the program monthly to ensure there is consistent action. We need your support to ensure it.

What do we want from you?

The work we do in Delhi will serve as proof of concept to the government & corporates pan-India who have taken an interest in supporting us in the future as part of their Swachh Bharat and Employee Engagement CSR initiatives in the next year.

Towards the same, to continue with Climate Change and air pollution awareness for our collective benefit and for future generations in India, to set up a website & strengthen our capacity we are in urgent need of INR 3 lakhs for the 2018-19 financial year. Being volunteer based and mobile our structure is lean and our overheads are low meaning that more of the money goes into the actual work.

Our current work is on Climate Change with colleges (#Climate4Change Program) and on Air Pollution with Schools & colleges (#Action4Air Program). Please donate at least Rs 500 per month if possible to this cause via the campaign. Please email us at keystrustindia@gmail.com
 with any queries.

How will the money be used?

Your contribution will go to:

1. Educational Program, Event & Web content development and organization
2. Equipment and activities material
3. Administrative inputs- rental expenses, stationary supplies, bills, volunteers, logistics, etc.
4. Partner Ecosystem Development
5. Documentation of progress- Programs & Events

Since climate change and pollution are everyone's problem we have made it interesting for not just the youth we support but also for you our valued donors. We request from a minimum of Rs. 500 per month. Each donation approximately supports a workshop for 5 children. We do not believe in just taking from our donors to give back to society but rather in giving back in a small way as well since you are a part of society.

We are 12AA registered so your donations to us will be fully utilized. We currently are in the process of applying for 80G so are unable to offer tax exemptions just yet, however it is a work in progress. We have a little competition for you in keeping with our commitment, to ensure that you are not just a contributor but also a partner, recruiter & community change maker with us. Do let us know if you wish to participate in it.
