Help me raise funds for Purnata
“I was trafficked at the age of 11, rescued at the age of 16 and repatriated back to my hometown when I was repatriated back to my village in Bangladesh at the age of 19. From rescue to rehabilitation to repatriation, Purnata played a big part. They treated me as special as they did all they could to ensure I was restored to a measure of wholeness and sent back to make something of my broken life.”

The Problem
What is Purnata?
PURNATA, meaning ‘completion’ or ‘wholeness’ began work in April 2014 & is registered as a Society & Trust under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 & Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950.
Prevention is critical to end trafficking or at least make a dent in it. Purnata does Rescue, Rehabilitation and Reintegration of survivors of Human Trafficking in Mumbai and West Bengal, with a major focus on prevention at source, transit, and destination.
Purnata works holistically & collaboratively using research and innovation to End Human Trafficking by ensuring wholeness for all, from the inside out. They primarily target children, youth, women at risk of being trafficked & in sexual exploitation and perpetrators of human trafficking.
What does Purnata do presently?
Research : We have researched and done source area mapping through data being collected from Govt/NGO-run homes.
Prevention: Prevention at source areas to reduce vulnerability of potential victims of trafficking, Prevention at transit routes to increase risk to traffickers on trafficking routes and Prevention at destinations to reduce demand for trafficked goods and services.
Rescue: Awareness & training in vulnerable communities, college campuses and civil society agencies apart from working with Govt agencies and the Police to trace missing children, physically rescue minors and forced majors trapped in the sex trade.
Foster Care: We have begun a Group Foster Care Home and are working with the Govt to promote foster care as an alternative form of reintegrating children.
Outreach in Red light Areas: We work in two red-light areas and visit many more. We are teaching English, Hindi, Maths, life skills, tailoring, jewelry making and other creative skills to the women at our Drop-in-Center (DIC). We also give tuition support, nutrition, life skills, sports and extra-curricular activities to children at risk in our Day Care Center (DCC).
Rehab Home: With a capacity of eight, Purnata Bhavan has been home to survivors of Human Trafficking over the last few years, providing a safe haven where they get the love of family.
Training Centre: Providing basic literacy, life skills and essential livelihood training that the women are interested in and able to handle.
The Rehab Home & Training Centre together help restore dignity and shaping dreams of these women giving them a hope and a future.
How will your money be used?
1. To reach out to women and children vulnerable to trafficking and in situations of commercial sexual exploitation, offering them the possibility of a different life filled with dignity and purpose.
2. To provide safe housing for survivors of trafficking who choose to leave their slavery for a future with hope and transformation.
3. To provide education, life skills, job training and placement for survivors of trafficking into viable and sustainable jobs/businesses.
4. To provide protection, education, good health and restoring childhood for vulnerable children in and around the red light areas.
5. To bring greater awareness on the issue of human trafficking.
