Help me raise funds for Habitat for Humanity India
Dear friends,
My name is Anika Pardeshi and I am a student of JB Petit. I am raising funds for Habitat for Humanity to improve the lives of girls. Habitat India’s Stay at School campaign seeks to help girls break free of shame and constraints attached to menstruation by providing access to health and hygiene kits consisting of sanitary pads, counseling on menstruation, and building gender segregated sanitation units to reduce drop-out rates of school girls in the country.
Here's our chance to come together to make a difference in the lives of millions of girls.
About Habitat for Humanity India
Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort. The housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 70 countries. In India since 1983, Habitat for Humanity has supported more than 37 million people to build or improve a place they can call home.
Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower.
The Problem
Due to the lack of improved sanitation units, young girls dread going to school during menstruation for the fear of being shamed. Absence of toilets, lack of access to sanitary pads and knowledge of menstrual hygiene make them vulnerable to major infections, which left unaddressed, affects reproductive health and their overall health.
Menstruating girls in majority of the communities in India undergo traumatic experiences; burdened by taboos, social restrictions and lack of knowledge on menstrual health management.
The Solution
Hygiene Kit
Sanitary napkins (20 pieces)
Hand wash gel
Vaginal wash
Vaginal wipes/tissue papers
One piece of toothpaste, toothbrush, nail cutter and comb.
Counseling
Your contribution will help a girl receive counseling related to menstrual health and hygiene, family life and reproductive health, and a better understanding of her own body.
Sanitation Facility
We build accessible sanitation facilities in schools and communities to help girls stay in school and protect women who otherwise have to travel long distances to secluded areas to meet their needs.
We focus on building individual and community toilets and sanitation units. We built a school sanitation unit for the school with a sanitary napkin dispenser and incinerator.
The Impact
From FY 2014 to FY March 2022, we have constructed 347 school sanitation units and 4,15,520 individuals have been impacted.
