A student short film
Athaaram is a take on patriarchal and societal influences on Sita’s life that forces her to limit herself to the norms, responsibilities and manners that an Indian housewife is expected to live up to. It also gives us a glimpse of the life of Sita’s daughter Shreya. She is determined to lead a life where she's strong and does not need to depend on the men in her life. But although she motives and encourages others to do the same, she finds herself failing to live her life on her own terms.
This story however isn’t just about Sita, Shreya, Patriarchy or Feminism. It is about the trap that this modern day world imposes on people, making them a part of this mechanical race of following gender norms and capitalistic pressures while restricting them from living their own life. It is about the importance of redeeming yourself from this monotony and breaking free to give some time to love and heel by yourself. Help Sita tell each one of our stories through this quest for redemption.
THE CREW
Swetha Pillai
Writer/Director
Pure breed of South Indian who loves having a good conversation over filter coffee. "Sometimes I write and try being creative but mostly excel at cracking lame jokes and laughing at them." But mostly, our director is a woman determined to make magic out of the several stories she has under her curly hair.
Sindhuja Desai
Producer
Her love for TV shows falls somewhere in between her eagerness for new experiences and obsession with Nutella. She's a creative soul with a knack for getting work done. "There are two ways I love sharing my stories and my feelings- film and dance."
Kritika Siroliya
Cinematographer
"Camera is the best medium through which I see my future. And as they say, every picture tells a story. So, I decided to create one." A practical woman in a world full of mad hatters, you will always see her with a camera and grin. Her interests also include eating all the butter chicken that she can in this life time.
Kritika Singh Bisen
Editor
"I want to live more deeply. To fill the core of my spirit with adventure. I want to tell stories, the ones that people don't know about or find too easy to ignore. I love seeing the bits of my vision forming into a story that stems out of more than one mind." A keen explorer, Kritika is unafraid to show the world through her films every emotion that she feels and every story she captures.
Sayali Gatne
Production Designer
Whether is it's dancing or doodling, she will surely be dressed up when she's doing either of those. She carries the same enthusiasm through each moment in her life. A fierce performer and storyteller, Sayali's energy is one that will keep the team on its toes.
To make our vision come to life, we need your help. We require equipment and resources to shoot the film and put it out there for you to watch. Your contribution will be used by us only for the filming and promotion of the short film. Please do help us in realising our story! Thank you.
