My little baby’s heart is not strong enough. Please help me fund his surgery

“My baby’s heart is failing,” Renuka says, her grim face wet with tears. “Every day I pray that no one ever goes through this. It is extremely difficult for any parent to see their child battling between life and death and not being able to do anything.”

Her 2-month-old baby is suffering from congenital heart disease, a defect in the structure of heart present at birth. Ever since he was born, there hasn’t been a single day when he has breathed without any struggle.

The first thing he experienced after coming to this world was pain

Renuka was in the seventh month of her pregnancy when the doctors told her about the defect in her unborn baby’s heart. The couple was terrified, but the doctors had assured them that he will be fine with proper treatment.

Right after their little one was born, he started gasping for air. He couldn’t get enough oxygen because of which his body started turning blue. He was immediately taken for a check-up where his disease was diagnosed.

“I still remember that fateful day. My husband, in-laws, and my parents came to meet me after my delivery. But the expressions on their faces were of grief and sympathy,” Renuka recalls.

“I knew that my baby’s heart was weak, but when I saw him, I was devastated. He was so weak and couldn’t even breathe properly,” recalls Renuka.

The poor parents have no means to save their only child

Soon after the little one’s disease was diagnosed, the doctors informed Renuka and Srikanth that he needs heart surgery at the earliest. However, when they were told that the surgery will cost Rs 3 lakh ($ 3958.31), every bit of hope that they had of saving their baby shattered. They hugged their little one and cried inconsolably.

As a truck driver, Srikanth knew that he will never be able to arrange the required sum. Whatever little he had saved and borrowed has already been exhausted in his wife’s delivery and his baby’s initial treatment. Now, the poor father is helpless as no one is ready to lend him money.

“We have done everything we could to save our only child. He is our firstborn, our only happiness. But it feels like we have failed him. We can’t even lessen his miseries, let alone save his life,” Renuka cries.

“He can’t get enough oxygen. Because of the breathlessness, he keeps wailing in discomfort. I can’t tell how heartbreaking it is.”
