My journey

The U&I community has helped me feel 'oneness'. Based on what you ask? Based on the feeling of helping without needing anything return..actually scratch that I do get a lot in return. I get kindness, I get warmth, It makes me human. These emotions are the primary driving force that makes people go the extra mile, driving change, leading to a better future.

I was always intrigued to teach, but I didn't know where and what. One can say this NGO has been a blessing in disguise, it answered not one but both my questions. I teach Science to a student and seeing the child progress over time gives me great joy and being a part of this initiative has been one of the best decisions of my life!

What is U&I?

We get it. You want to support a worthy social cause, but you also want to make sure you’re backing a credible organization that actually makes a difference. We’d like to suggest U&I, a for-impact movement with a proven track record of empowering thousands of underprivileged children through education and mentorship. But don’t just take our word for it. Every year, U&I inspires 1200 volunteers to invest in the lives of underprivileged children. We’ve been doing this for ten years. That’s an entire decade of equipping passionate change-makers to teach and mentor more than 1300 children year after year after year.

In addition to personalized tutoring, we give each student access to reading and computer programs. We are committed to giving them a holistic education.

While the pandemic changed the format of how we deliver education, it hasn’t changed our goal to give each child the confidence and skills to live their dreams. Our online classes have been a game-changer in these young lives. We have been able to connect and collaborate, inspire and teach – even through virtual lessons and games.

For the next four weeks, we invite you to #changethestory for these underprivileged children. They don’t have to be forced to drop out of school. They don’t have to forget their aspirations of going to college. They don’t have to give up on their dreams of having a real career. You have the power to create a plot twist. You have the power to rewrite their stories.

Why Give?

In India today, more than 50% of children drop out of government-run elementary schools. By high school that number rises to an alarming 90%. These students drop out because they can’t cope with the system. Their performance is much below grade level, they lack personalized attention, and don’t have role models. When you donate, U&I can continue to give disadvantaged children the skills and the opportunities to make something of themselves.
