About the Fundraiser

Aloha awesome people,

The Story:

Epiphany School is a low income private school situated in Guruwar Peth, Pune. This school caters to more than 600 students from the nearby slum areas. The school teachers are dedicated and determined to provide excellent education to the students, they do not want poverty to dictate the destiny of these kids.

Every year Epiphany School organizes an annual day not just to celebrate the students but also to give its teachers and students a unique experience. Every year, the students, teachers and parents look forward for this big day.

The feature presentation of the big day is a drama. This grand production is organized like a professional one. From selecting the perfect script, auditioning to select the right kids for the roles, regular rehearsals, acting workshops, audio recordings, reflection circles to consolidate learnings of the experience, practice and practice till the whole thing makes the audience applaud with pride and joy on the big day. Pride that their kid was part of this beautiful experience and joy that they were there to experience it.

The Adventures of the Magical Crowns, this year’s feature presentation is, “a story of six kids who encounter magical crown that takes them to seven different countries. A tour guide, who comes with the crown, takes these kids through a beautiful showcase of culture and diversity across the world. Gradually the kids come back with a newfound respect for different people and their roots, bringing them closer to their own.” This story highlights the importance of curiosity, acceptance and unity.

The annual day is not just a story of applause. It has a story of hard work. It is that feeling the student carries in her/his heart, “I can’t wait to show the audience what I can do.” It is the story that our principal, Mrs. S. S. Kadam, carries in her heart, “My students can achieve anything.” It is a story of tremendous learnings and growth both for the teachers and students alike. The students are pushed to be their best: be it diction while saying the chief guests name or having the confidence to stand on the stage to be seen by more than 1000 people. The teachers sail through a storm of challenges to make this happen for the students, challenges like: balancing academics with co-curricular, making the right props for the play, training kids deliver nothing less than their best, and managing the venue and funds for the kids an experience of lifetime. The last bit is where we need your help!

The funds you donate will be used to for the venue, the sound and the lights. Please help us bring this grand event to life.

"No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted."

Who am I?

I am a 2016 Teach For India fellow. I have been having a time of my life with these amazing kids since last year.

Why does this matter to me?

For me it is simple. I know I would have been a confident student if I had such experiences in my school life.

The motto of my school is, ‘Be the light of the world.’ When I think of it, how can students be the light of the world if they cannot find their own light? The experience that the school annual day gives them, I think, will help them find their light. The words of Marianne Williamson then perfectly sum this up for me, “And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Teach For India:

Its vision is that “one day all children in India will achieve an excellent education.” The fellows at TFI work relentlessly to bridge the inevitable gaps faced by the students (living in under-resourced areas) with the hope of leveraging education to transform their future paths.
