Helpless Parents Of This 4-Year-Old Battling Cancer Need Your Support

“Really appa? I’ll also have a school bag like Sai anna?”, my 4-year-old daughter Vaishnavi was thrilled about the idea of going to school along with her elder brother. She couldn’t wait to wave goodbye to both of us and get into the school bus with my elder son. But fate had a different plan. Today my daughter has painful syringes in place of books and she’s surrounded with doctors instead of classmates.

The reason for such unfortunate turn of events is this dreadful disease called blood cancer. The doctors said that she’ll need at least 16 chemotherapy cycles to destroy the cancer in her body. The treatment will last for at least 3 years. Since last year, she has been waiting for summer. It’s heartbreaking to see how her summer won’t arrive for another 3 long years filled with chemotherapy and radiation sessions contained within the four walls of the hospital.

My name is Venta Kesham. I’m a store assistant by profession. I make Rs. 9,500 every month. I live in Hyderabad with my family comprising of my wife and children. My wife is a homemaker, making me the sole breadwinner of the family. After spending Rs. 5,50,000, I’m left with absolutely nothing to support my daughter’s treatment that costs a staggering Rs. 13 lakh. Where do I get the money that’s required to pull my daughter out of the clutches of cancer? I won’t have peace till I have an answer to this question.

I still remember the dreadful night it all started from. This year, on September 15, my Vaishu was burning with fever. As the day progressed, her condition just became worse, her eyes started swelling up. Our anxiety reached an alarming level when at around 2 am, her body started turning yellow. We rushed her to the hospital. For two days, Vaishnavi underwent multiple tests. On September 17, the diagnosis changed everything. Just hearing that she had blood cancer was a devastating moment for us. We couldn’t believe cancer had caught hold of our little angel. Nothing has been the same since that day.

My Vaishu has been in the hospital since September 17. She has undergone 4 chemotherapy cycles in the last 3 months and she needs 12 more. These chemotherapy sessions make her very weak. By the end of the day, there’s barely any food left in her system. She vomits most of it out. I wish I could do something to reduce her pain and suffering. It’s been difficult to see her, I don’t know what the impending sessions will do to her body and more importantly, her mind, she’s so young. I don’t want these to affect her will to fight the disease.

Vaishnavi has always been a quiet and shy child. She doesn’t speak much. Ever since she came to the hospital, we’ve barely heard her voice - it’s like she has stopped talking completely. She spends most of her time crying or sleeping. This disease is keeping her away from all the things that are dear to her - her favourite nariyal chatani, chocolate ice cream, her favourite channel Nick and the school she’s been longing to go to.

In the last two months, we’ve spent over Rs. 5 lakh on her treatment because the per day cost goes as high as Rs. 5000 at times. It wasn’t easy for me to reach that amount. I’ve already exhausted my savings and borrowed money from my close friends. There’s still a long way to go. We need Rs. 13 lakh to continue her treatment. I just don’t know what to do now. My daughter’s life is depends on this. Please help me out.
