Dear Friends
Habitat for Humanity India COVID-19 Response 2020
The outbreak of COVID-19 (coronavirus) has caused a global health emergency. The total number of reported COVID-19 cases in India has rised to 6,825 cases.
COVID-19 pandemic has engulfed the entire world. Rapid spread and lack of vaccines has made it difficult to curtail the disease. As a safety measure, the Government of India announced a 21-day national lockdown with an aim to flatten the curve. This decision was taken out of concern and wellbeing of our society at large.
Amidst the lockdown, people who are affected the most are the daily wage earners or those living in vulnerable conditions who have no safety net to fall back on. Many of them are staring at starvation with rations running out. Though the Government is taking commendable measures to reach out to the vulnerable families, the need is immense. Hence every helping hand needs to be deployed to support these families in this time of crisis.
While housing is at the heart of everything we do, Habitat for Humanity India has been sensitising and raising awareness on the importance of hygiene and sanitation through our WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) program. As the country implements unprecedented measures amidst the global health emergency of COVID-19, we are supporting families and individuals by providing them with family essential kits and hygiene kits.
Through an abundance of caution, Habitat for Humanity India is not deploying our staff on ground but is mounting our response in partnership with state governments, local government administrations or government agencies.
Our collective action can save lives.
The Need is Immense and we are seeking support from our supporters in the following opportunity areas:
We seek your support to mobilize funds for ‘Family Essential Kits" for a Household. The cost of each "Family Essential kit" is Rs. 2,500/-
Habitat India will join hands with local District/Block/Village level authorities to spread awareness. Habitat will leverage on its local office and implementation partners who in turn will engage with the health network of the local authorities to engage with CBOs, SHGs and local organisations to identify community workers.
Keeping in view the guidelines released by the Central Government and State Governments, we will not be organising any mass gatherings. As much as we wish to be on the ground to help, the best thing to do now is to follow the guidelines laid down by authorities and support them through all possible means.
In Maharashtra, Habitat for Humanity India will be working in partnership with the state government on hygiene education and hygiene kits.
Donations made to Habitat for Humanity India are eligible for Tax Exemption under Section 80G. Habitat for Humanity India has been awarded with 1A – the highest rating by CRISIL.
Donate Now and share this fundraiser with your family and friends and help us raise maximum funds and improve the quality of these young lives!
About Habitat for Humanity India
Since 1983, Habitat for Humanity India has supported 33 million people in India to build or improve their homes, to provide them with access to sanitation and provide humanitarian aid support in the aftermath of disasters.
Habitat believes that the right to decent shelter is a fundamental right of each and every citizen and is committed to create a world where everyone has a decent place to live. We also believe that everyone should have access to sanitation, hygiene and safe water at home.
Over the last 4 years, Habitat India has organised ‘Hand-wash Campaigns’ across the country to initiate a conversation around safe hygiene habits among children, youth, adults and senior citizens to reduce the risk of water-borne diseases. This campaign enabled us to reach out to more than 10.54 million people across India with support from 104 partner organisations.
