Help Birju Mody Fight Rare Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma Metastasis

Dear friends and family,

My name is Birju Mody, and I am reaching out for your support in my battle against a rare and aggressive form of cancer called Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma Metastasis.

This cancer has spread from my thyroid glands to my spine, fracturing my L1 and L5 vertebrae, and further metastasizing to my liver and 10th rib. I have undergone two major surgeries: one on January 29th for thyroid removal and another on March 5th for spine fusion to facilitate radiation therapy.

Currently, my left leg has only 30-35% strength, and I require continuous medication. Until recently, I was taking Cabozantinib 40mg, but due to a positive RET mutation test, my doctors have prescribed Selpercatinib 40mg.

Unfortunately, and this medication is not available in India and must be imported from the USA, costing around 10 lakhs per month. Alternative medications would still cost approximately 2.4 lakhs monthly.

In addition to the medication, my ongoing expenses include 75,000 per month for reports, consultations, and medicines, with additional costs every three months for MRI, CT scan, Dotascan/PET scan, sonography, and X-ray, totalling over 1 lakh per month. If radiation therapy is required again, it will cost an additional 2.5-3 lakhs.

Overall, my medical expenses amount to 3-4 lakhs per month, which is beyond my financial capacity.

I had undergone treatment at Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai. To sustain my treatment for one year, we need 25 lakhs. After this period, there is hope that pharmaceutical companies will launch the same medication at a potentially lower cost.
