About the Fundraiser

India’s problem with women’s health

Every year, 60,000 women in India die of preventable causes. These are diseases that could have been avoided if they had early access to information from experts about health. Source

This problem isn’t limited to rural women. Poor health indicators and preventable diseases torment the average educated upper-middle class urban woman as much as the poor.

Health is deeply linked to women’s status in society. It is at the core of a vicious cycle of poor child mortality, low literacy and severely low participation of women in the workforce.

India ranks 120 among 131 countries in female labor force participation rates and rates of gender-based violence remain unacceptably high.

Poor health metrics affect female labour force participation. Research on women’s status has found that the contributions Indian women make to families often are overlooked, and instead they are falsely viewed as economic liabilities.

Narikaa’s solution

Much of this is down to the lack of access to credible, scientific, and easy to understand information on women’s health.

Narikaa intends to address this dire issue by working with organisations like FOGSI -  India’s leading experts on women’s health. With their support we ensure that all our content is:

1/ Scientific and credible

2/ Easy to understand and interactive

3/ Available in 9 Indian languages

Narikaa.com already houses more than 500 videos and 500 articles on close to 200 topics related to women’s health in India. Close to 50,000 women have accessed our content in regional languages to this date.

You can some of our past content here, here, and here

Where do we need your support

Most women-health websites around the world are maintained by a team of well-intentioned, but ill-informed freshly-out-of-college content writers, who take content from unreliable sources.

This puts the women accessing their opinions at a significant risk.

Why is there a huge shortage of credible websites?

Simple. High-quality, responsible and scientific content produced with leading experts costs money. FOGSI invests tremendous amounts of research and resources in understanding specific health issues.

And Narikaa spends a ton of effort in producing content that is easy to understand and interactive.

What will we do with the funds

We intend to address topics across 6 major areas of women’s health:

PREGNANCY, ADOLESCENCE,  MENOPAUSE, INFERTILITY, FAMILY PLANNING, AND GYAENOCOLOGICAL DISORDERS

All content will be accessible on mobile phones across social media and OTT platforms.

These will include:

A. 2-minute explainer videos in English and 9 major Indian languages

B. Short articles in English and 9 major Indian languages

C. 30-min long expert videos for OTT and Youtube

There are over 500 topics to be covered – and we look for topic specific funding.

Each topic requires about Rs. 7 lakhs to produce:

1. 7-9 short explainer videos

2. 7-9 300 word easy to understand articles

3. Every video and articles will be published in 9 Indian languages and English

4. 2 30-minute expert interview and Question and Answer interviews for OTT and Youtube

Basically, we are looking at 60-80 videos and 60-80 articles across every topic.

Here’s how you can help

You can either choose to contribute for our site-wide content, or choose a specific topic around which you’d like to see educational, engaging, and credible video content.

Here are the list of topics we are planning to cover in the next 6 months [open drop-down]

Remember, no contribution is insignificant. Contribute to your capacity. Contribute to women’s health. Contribute to India’s overall prosperity.
