About the Fundraiser

Dear Friends,

My name is Karrvi Posha and I am a student of Jasudben M.L. School. I am raising funds for Habitat for Humanity to empower communities through access to water across India. The NGO distributes water wheels, a cylindrical plastic container that can hold over 45 litres of water, and the handles help people to roll it on the ground without physical strain that occurs while carrying water pots on head, shoulders or waist. Here's our chance to come together to make a difference and improve the quality of life for vulnerable communities across India!

The Problem

More than 50% of the Indian population has no access to water. Many communities do not have water supply in their homes. Therefore the women in the village use heavy pots to collect water from wells nearby, waking up early in the morning for this tedious task, which often goes on for more than an hour.

The women walk almost 4 km per day and many suffer from sore necks and backs, especially due to the weight of the pots. The soaring temperatures in summer make this task even more tiresome.

The Solution

Habitat for Humanity India distributes water wheels, a cylindrical plastic container that can hold over 45 litres of water, and the handles help people to roll it on the ground without physical strain that occurs while carrying water pots on head, shoulders or waist.

As any member of the family can use these water wheels with ease, the task of collecting water can be distributed even among the men or children of the family.

Habitat for Humanity India distributes water wheels to families to help reduce the physical pain of multiple journeys to fetch water. As of June 30th 2021, 7121 families have been served through the distribution of water wheels.

Thank you in advance for your contributions. Your donations will go towards Habitat India’s WASH program which aims to provide water wheels to those in need.

The Impact

Pravinbhai (37) and his wife Veluben (35) live with their three children in Khokhari, a village in the district of Rajkot, Gujarat. Khokhari is a dry and arid place due to which Pravinbhai had to walk almost seven to eight hours a day to fetch water.

“The average amount of water required for our family of five is about 250 liters per day, and it was frustrating to walk up and down every day to fetch water. But there was no solution without water, nothing was possible,” said Pravinbhai.

Pravinbhai received a water wheel from Habitat for Humanity India to help him and the family reduce the physical pain of multiple journeys to fetch water. “Fetching water has become very easy for me now.”

On receiving a water wheel from Habitat for Humanity India. “My children, who are very young, couldn’t carry pots on their heads. But now they can help with fetching water as they roll the water wheel with ease!” says Pravinbhai.
