Rebuilding centuries of Alathiyur Subrahmanya temple in Malappuram Kerala which was destroyed during invasions and riots
Kunnamkulangara Subrahmanya temple in Alathiyur village of Malappuram district Kerala was lying in ruins for many decades since the riots of 1921. The idols of Ganesha and Subrahmanya were mutilated during those times and these idols still remain awaiting worship.
Restart of Worship
As part of the revival of the temple, Swami Bharati Maharaj lighted lamp and restarted worship of the Gods on 29 April 2018. A committee of devotees of the locality was also formed to ensure the worship and work for the revival.
Devaprashnam
The next process was Devaprashnam where astrologers find as per Tantrashastra the Deities to be worshipped in the temple, the temple plan and other details. The Devaprashnam rituals was conducted on 14-15 June 2018. All the devotees of the area came together in conduct for the temple rituals.
Temple architecture
The temple plan and measurements were then finalised as per the advice of Brahmadattan Namboodirippad who is an expert in Tantrashastra. The temple plan is as below.
The revival of the temple is a long cherished dream of the Hindu community of the locality. The temple had huge tracts of land earlier, but was encroached upon with time. The present temple site was also encroached. Shri Muthedathu Thamburan whose family once owned the temple led a determined legal fight and got the temple back from encroachers. His only wish now is to see the temple rebuilt and pray to the Deity there.
Reconstruction
The reconstruction of the temple will start on 23 Aug 2018, as advised by astrologer. We will be rebuilding the temple as per the traditional ways and using stones.
Would appeal to devotees all over world to contribute towards reconstruction of the temple. We are looking to complete the construction in six months.
This temple is part of the #ReclaimTemples project in Malappuram Kerala to rebuild 300 ancient Hindu Heritage temples that are lying in ruins for decades and centuries. We believe the project will strengthen the society and along with their social, economic and cultural prosperity
