About the Fundraiser

Hi!

My Name is Anisha Lakshmanan and I just released my debut EP completely independently.

It's called 'Of Many' and is an album with influences derived from Hindustani classical, Carnatic, Jazz, Flamenco, Pop and Soul. It is named so because the albums speaks 'Of many' kinds of languages, 'of many' emotions, 'of many' phases of my life and more and follows a narrative very close to that of my life. No two songs are alike yet, they have the commonality of emotion and space of creation. It is a trilingual EP consisting of songs in 3 languages, English, Hindi and Tamil

After having written, arranged and produced this with the support of my friends and instructors at Berklee College of Music, Valencia I'm so happy to finally be able to bring it to my people here in India!

I want for the audience (i.e YOU) to experience the music in the best way possible and I would like to travel with my 5 member band to the following cities; Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi, Pune and Mumbai in May 2019!

Getting to these cities, however is where we will need assistance! This fundraiser will cover travel and stay costs in the 5 cities.

I'm also shooting a music video for one of my songs from the EP - Stranger in a Mask! We're trying to do it as low cost as possible, this fundraiser includes basic production costs for the shoot!

All and any help is welcome! I'm so grateful to be able to finally live and share my music with the world and doing this independently has been a challenge that has been possible to live through only with the support of my friends and family! Your contribution to this will make you a part of this journey for all time to come.

My Journey until now!

Born into to a family with Musical Heritage, I'm the great- grand niece of Carnatic Music Composer Harikeshanellur Muthaiah Bhagvathar. Starting early, at the age of 5, I was trained in Carnatic music under various gurus in Delhi and in Chennai, including, Padmashree Smt. Gayathri Sankaran and Kalaimamani Dr. S Sunder.

However, life took me in a very different direction and I studied to be a CA for 3.5 years before giving it up to pursue a career in Music. With a desire to equip myself with a broad-based knowledge I moved on to learning western classical music but found myself drawn to Hindustani classical music.

I was trained by Shri Krishna Ballesh and Shehnai Maestro Pt. S Ballesh of the Patiala Gharana, maestros in the field of Hindustani music and some of the last surviving Shehnai  players, while I was in Chennai and Dr Vidya Gokhale, in Pune where I completed my Bachelor’s in the same.

Throughout this journey, I always had my eye on the prize that was a Masters in Contemporary Music Performance from Berklee College of Music, Valencia, which I finally completed in the year 2018! This experience was life changing and has contributed immensely to my musical style and evolution! I went from being a cover artist to writing, arranging and producing my own EP, all in the span of under 10 months!

I have moved back to India now and live in Mumbai, performing and singing as much as I can!
