Need Urgent Attention! Here’s a quick update on Rubina Rodgers’ treatment. (June 23, 2023)
On June 22, 2023, Rubina was complaining of severe headache and was taken to Apollo, Vanagaram immediately. A CT Brain scan was done to check for any bleeding that could be the cause of the acute headache. She was kept in the HDU for one night for monitoring while waiting for the final report. The report showed no bleeding, but we found that the lesions in her brain are growing.
She has moved to the normal ward and the infusion was planned for June 23, 2023.
Currently, she’s on:
In addition to these, two more drugs have been added:

Need Urgent Attention! Here’s a quick update on Rubina Rodgers’ treatment.
Rubina was taken to Apollo Vanagaram’s Emergency room on May 22nd with symptoms like dizziness and fatigue and we found after blood test that a bacterial infection had spread to her blood causing sepsis; she was immediately moved to the ward and treated with antibiotics targeting the blood. On May 27th her oxygen level started dropping (below 80SpO2) and we were told that her general condition was worsening and that she needed to be moved to the HDU.
She was still on antibiotics to treat the sepsis and her oxygen level was monitored. During this time, being alone in the HDU and being pricked and scanned constantly caused her emotional distress.
Fearing that her emotional condition was stopping her from healing, once her condition then was stable, we moved her to a private ward on May 29, to help her relax and be with family. Hoping that would help her to get to a better place psychologically.
And it did; but the next morning, her oxygen started dropping again and we had to move her back to the HDU on May 30th. A CT scan was requested by the general medicine team. After the scan, she was moved to the MDCCU; the reports showed that the infection had spread to her lungs.
She was placed on a noninvasive ventilator on its max setting. Her antibiotics were changed and she was moved to a BiPAP machine on the second day. She was in there till June 2nd.
While she was responding well to the treatment, her psychological condition was worsening.
So once she was stable, she was moved to the HDU with the plan to be monitored for a day and then moved to the normal ward. Unfortunately, while in the HDU, she had a seizure. It was attended to immediately with anti-seizure medication.
Considering all of this, she was moved to a private ward on June 3rd with the following: oxygen support, BiPAP machine, and a 1-on-1 nurse.
Since then, she has been recovering very well and her oxygen dependency has also has been reducing and is maintaining good blood oxygen levels.
The infection is now gone. But the doctors had to take her off Dexamethasone, a steroid that helps reduce the swelling in the brain, and put her on another steroid that targeted the lungs. Because she was off dexa, since last week, she has been bedridden and her speech has been impaired as the swelling has increased. She has been put back on dexa and she has been recovering slowly; her motor functions, and speech are getting better but still has a long way to go.
Since she was on life support under critical care, her chemotherapy has been pushed by 15 days as of now and they can’t start again until she gets stronger and is no longer on supportive medicines.
Please continue supporting us as we try to reach our goal to support her. We are extremely grateful for all the love and support that you have bestowed upon us and we shall always stay indebted to you, truly.

Need Urgent Attention! Here’s a quick update on Rubina Rodgers’ treatment.
On Saturday, April 1st, 2023 at 8:30PM, Rubina collapsed and was rushed to the emergency ward at Apollo Vanagaram, Chennai and was immediately admitted in the HDU; It was deduced that this happened because the brain edema(excess fluid trapped in the body's tissues) had increased so much that it was compressing the brain.
This had also caused her heart rate to drop down to around 49bpm. After making sure that she had no infections, she was started on antibiotics and steroids to reduce the swelling in her brain.
After two days in the HDU(High Dependency Unit), she regained consciousness on Tuesday, April 4th, 2023 and once she was stable, we did a MRI and CT scan to find the source and make sure there wasn’t any other damage that was caused due to this incident.
Once the reports came in, we found out that a duct in her head, through which the fluid was supposed to be draining, was being pressed against the tumour in her small brain and restricting the flow. Hence the pressure in her head increased so much that her body shutdown.
The edema is a side effect for the TDM1 and chemo medication she is on.
We consulted with the Neurosurgery department to figure out the next steps; and since the edema is a side effect for the TDM1 and chemo medication she is on, the only option we had was to install a shunt on her skull that would drain the excess fluid into her stomach.
The surgery was done on Thursday, April 6th, 2023 and it was a success. After the surgery, she was in the Neuro ICU for 4 hours and once she was stable, she was moved to the Neuro general ward.
On Friday, April 7th, 2023 the Physiotherapy Department had a review and made her do some exercises and took her for a walk for the first time in 6 days. She was able to hold herself up but was wobbly.
On Saturday, April 8th, 2023 the Neurosurgery team had cleared her to be discharged and was brought back home.
Since then she has been advised bed rest to make a recovery from the surgery. She has to report for her first review with the Neurosurgeon on Thursday, April 13, 2023 along with a full report on her Sr Potassium and Sodium blood tests. Her appointment is yet to be scheduled. Let’s hope they schedule one soon.
The Next Steps:
The following week on Friday the 21st, 2023 she is scheduled for her next review with her Medical Oncology team and then hopefully scheduled for her next TDM1 infusion on the same day. She’s been advised to do a CBC LFT RFT blood test and report for the review. Let’s all hope that it goes well and she makes a speedy recovery soon.
Please continue supporting us as we try to reach our goal to support her.

Need Urgent Attention! Here’s a quick update on Rubina Rodgers’ treatment.
This last week, Rubina was advised to run a full brain MRI, which revealed 4 new tumours in her brain. Following the discovery, she has been advised to change her current treatment plan immediately.
The medical team has confirmed that she is not eligible for a surgery as the procedure is very risky and comes with a lot of complications. They’ve started her on Radiotherapy to try and control the growth. 10 consecutive days of Radiotherapy has been prescribed - 27th June till 8th July, 2022.
She has had 8 cycles of radiotherapy since 27th June, 2022 till today.
The medical team has also changed the medication combination of Perjeta & Herclon to TDM1(Kadecyla) in combination with Radiotherapy. The earlier combination of medication prescribed unfortunately, did not carry to the brain which led to the disease spreading to the head.
New Drug Information:
1. TDM1(Kadecyla) will hopefully help treat the brain tumours as well
2. She has been advised to start her 1st cycle of TDM1(Kadecyla) on the 12th of July, 2022 - and to continue her cycles every 21 days from then on
3. She requires 200mg of TDM1(Kadecyla) every cycle (every 21 days)
4. A 100mg vial of TDM1(Kadecyla) estimates to MRP ₹1,71,963/- *
5. 200mg for each session estimates to MRP ₹3,43,926/- *
6. This is the cost of just the medication alone, aside from the hospital expenses
We urgently require funds for at least 6 vials to help her get started at the moment.
We currently have enough to start her 1st cycle on the 12th of July.
After her 4th infusion of the new drug she will undergo another MRI and screening to check the response of the medication.
Her recent PET CT scans as of 28th July, 2022, thankfully reveal that the existing bone mets on the spine are inactive and the other parts are clear. This helps us focus our efforts on treating the brain tumours. She will have to repeat her next PET CT in 6 months from now i.e. December 2022.
However, we are still far from our goal. We are extremely grateful for all the love and support that you have bestowed upon us and we shall always stay indebted to you. Hello everyone,
We would like to inform you that our dear friend Rubina Rodgers who had previously been diagnosed with carcinoma of the left breast (stage 4) has been responding to the treatment being administered to her by the medical team at CMC Vellore.
She has received 7 chemotherapy sessions so far, after which she has also successfully undergone a unilateral mastectomy to remove the tumour in her left breast. She is now in recovery from surgery and has to prepare further for her maintenance treatment plan such as radiotherapy, continued chemotherapy, immunotherapy and plastic surgery extending to a period of 2 years.
We currently have funds to only cover the radiotherapy for 16 to 20 days and 3 sessions of chemotherapy. But she is required to undergo chemotherapy every 3 weeks, starting from now for the next 2 years. Each chemotherapy session costs 3,50,000 currently. We are yet to receive an estimation for immunotherapy which will be administered alongside chemotherapy.
She has another PET scan and a gene mutation testing in 6 months from now and will have to undergo a prophylactic mastectomy to remove her right breast to reduce the risk of developing cancer and having it spread to the right side. Hopefully, once she is out of remission, she will be able to prepare for plastic surgery.
She has endured a lot of pain but has had a good response given that her treatment has been moved from being palliative care to one with curative intent. We are trying our best to support her in every way possible on this very difficult road to recovery.
Rubina is just 24 and does not deserve to endure such hardships. She needs our help now more than ever. We want to give her every chance to fight and overcome this difficulty with everyone’s support. We would appreciate and be ever so grateful for any donation large or small. More importantly, please keep Rubina in all your prayers, thank you.

Hello everyone. It is with a heavy heart we inform that our dear friend RUBINA RODGERS who had previously been diagnosed with carcinoma of left breast (stage 4) hasn’t been responding to the treatment given so far.
She started with 3 chemotherapy sessions. But since her cancer is aggressive and virulent, she now requires more vigorous and potent drugs for her treatment. She has now been admitted in CMC Vellore where each chemotherapy session costs around 4 lakhs and so the first 6 sessions approximates 20 lakhs. She will further undergo treatments such as surgery for removal of her tumour, followed by radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and plastic surgery extending to a period of 2 years. We have funds to only cover the initial few sessions of chemotherapy and are trying our best to support her in every way possible on this difficult road to recovery.
Rubina is just 23 and does not deserve to endure such hardships. She needs our help now more than ever. We want to give her every chance to fight and overcome this difficulty with everyone’s support. We would appreciate and be ever so grateful for any donation large or small. More importantly, please keep Rubina in all your prayers, thank you.
