In a country which is deep-rooted in patriarchy, a vigilant fight for gender equality and empowerment of women becomes the social need of the hour.

Project Women Empowerment, a focus Project of AIESEC in Chennai, is run in coordination with reputed NGOs in the city such as The Red Elephant Foundation, Ashriya Andhra Mahila Sabha, Help a Child of India, Women's Education and Economic Development Society, SIAWED and Nirangal. The Project has facilitated the NGOs to have international interns, who have impacted measurable changes in Chennai over years of operation. It has helped the NGOs to achieve commendable community development and empowerment of women. The Project has also created a space for solution orientation - for both the NGOs and the women involved - through cross-cultural understanding and idea sharing.

When it comes to these young leaders from around the world. this Project enables them to fight for emancipation and empowerment of women and girls in and around the city. The Project channelises the passion of the interns and allow them to engage and interact with the 'minority' sector. The Project provides a platform for the interns to educate, inform, help, guide, and work for the women in the society.

Project Women Empowerment has created measurable impact 

But the cause of this Project - achieving gender equality in the city - is a long and arduous fight. The Project needs sheer passion of interns and support from the community. But it also needs sustainability!
