About the Fundraiser

 

What is Pro Sport Development’s (PSD) Community Sports Program?

 
PSD’s Community Sports Program works with underprivileged children living and studying in the various slums of Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The program utilizes sports and physical activity to aid in their emotional, social and cognitive development as well as physical health and well-being, by utilizing a structured curriculum and well-trained coaches.

What are we fundraising for?

 
We are raising funds to support PSD’s Community Sports Program being implemented in Vivekananda Shiksha Kendra School, an NGO school supporting the education of underprivileged children residing in one of Asia’s largest slums, Salia Sahi.

 
At Vivekananda Shiksha Kendra, PSD works with a total of 140 children between classes V to VII, with 47% of the participants being girls.

 
The funds raised from this campaign will be utilized to pay for the coaches, the equipment and the curriculum required to support the implementation of the program for the next 6 months.

 
This works out to only Rs. 536 per child for 6 months – less than Rs. 100 per child per month!

 
Impact of Community Sports Program

  • Why is it important to us?

     
    We have worked with PSD through various roles and most importantly have helped in laying the foundation of the Community Sports Program in Bhubaneswar. Being involved from coaching these underprivileged children to convincing local schools about the importance of sports in daily life has been a rewarding experience.

    It is important for us to continue with the progress of these children in their emotional, social and physical development. This cause caters to increasing their cognitive skills in conjunction with their academic progress. Through this campaign we plan to provide these children, who lack the resources, a platform for becoming competent and real-world leaders within their communities by having the freedom to express themselves through sport.
