About the Fundraiser

“I had always dreamt of being a mother & my son Nikesh’s healthy birth gave me extreme joy. But an accident has put my child’s life to risk, and I don’t know if he’ll ever make it out of this safely,” grieves Sundarmani.

One night when Nikesh was around six months old, Sundarmani was holding him & cooking food for the family.

Suddenly, she contracted a seizure, and Nikesh fell from her arms into the fire.

“I heard my child screaming in pain and rushed to the kitchen. What I saw in front of my eyes was so hard to digest. I saw my baby’s face and hands burning in the fire.” exclaimed Sonsay.

Nikesh was rushed to a nearby local clinic as soon as possible but the doctors suggested shifting him elsewhere because his condition was dire.

“The doctors’ suggestion left us in further worry, and we couldn’t figure out what to do next. But we shifted Nikesh to the nearest speciality hospital as soon as it was possible for us,” spoke Sonsay.

The doctors performed blood tests and X-rays before admitting him.

“We’re afraid your son’s condition is extremely critical. He’s bleeding out internally and he’ll need to be kept admitted while we apply the regular dressing with medication,” informed the doctors.

However, little Nikesh’s miseries did not end there…

“I’m a meagre daily wage labourer, and the hospital charges were too much for me to bear. So we took Nikesh back home with us and admitted him to our district hospital for another week,” said Sonsay.

But Nikesh eventually developed burn contracture, and his situation demanded urgent surgery.

“We took him to several hospitals, but the cost they quoted for the surgery was beyond our means to afford. We had to come back every time because, without sufficient funds, they refused to start the treatments,” sighed Sonsay.

The doctors have recommended multiple-stage contracture release operations. The cost for the same is a soul-crushing Rs 10,50,000 ($ 12769.13) .

“We’re a family of five, and my husband’s income is barely enough to make the ends meet. I lost a child three years ago, and the mere thought of losing Nikesh due to lack of funds scares me to death.

We did everything in our power to try and fund Nikesh’s treatments to date. We exhausted every penny we had and borrowed money from our relatives, and now we don’t have anyone else to go to,” sobbed Sundarmani.

Nikesh is just two years old and has been fighting for his life ever since he was a baby. His treatment will only be possible if the funds are arranged.

With your support, he may still smile once again.
