Allah, cancer will take my child’s life. Please help me save my girl

Not once, not twice. But thrice.

Twice my daughter defeated her life-threatening illness. But now, the third time, her cancer has relapsed and even though her courage is stronger than ever, it might be her last attempt at life.

Kids her age spend their time playing games and watching T.V., but Sugra has been fighting for her life for years. Only 5-years-old, my baby has had a very difficult childhood.

In 2017, we observed Sugra becoming lethargic. She would get tired very easily. Once, she caught a fever and eventually, her stomach swelled. A couple of days later when her condition didn’t get any better, we rushed her to hospital.

My daughter was diagnosed with Hepatoblastoma, a rare liver cancer. Since then, none of us has known what happiness feels like.

From that time, we have shuttled between various hospitals where my child has undergone two liver surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. Due to this, she has become extremely weak and bald.

Amidst her treatment, Sugra’s condition is getting more critical as each day passes. However, we were informed that an urgent Liver Transplant will save my daughter’s life.

According to the doctor, “There is no alternative treatment available to save her life other than a liver transplant at this point. On evaluation, Mrs Shabnam Khan, the patient’s mother, is found to be fit as a liver donor.”

I let out a sigh of relief knowing I finally have the chance to do something to save my daughter’s life.

However, all my happiness proved to be short-timed when came along a piece of shocking news. For Sugra’s life-saving transplant, an enormous amount of Rs 25 lakh ($ 34035.60) is required.

I remember falling to the ground, feeling hopeless and afraid for my daughter’s life. My husband, who's a small carpenter, earns a minimum wage. Even though he’s not able to work much due to the crises, he put together every single penny for Sugra’s treatment. We even borrowed money from relatives and sold mostly all our precious possessions.

I pray to Allah all day long as I sit beside Sugra for her well-being but it isn’t enough, and now my daughter’s life depends on a huge sum of money that we can never arrange.

Even though she has gone to the hospital more than the playground, Sugra is a playful, life-loving girl. She loves spending time with her two elder sisters and her younger brother.

I don’t understand why my dear daughter has to suffer so much but I do know that if anything happens to her, none of us will be able to overcome the sorrow.

Since Sugra has been undergoing treatment for so many years, all of our resources have completely exhausted. Till now, we were able to pay for her treatments but now that she needs this urgent treatment to save her life, we’re helpless.
