This disease has robbed my first child of her mind, help me save my other

My son is merely 9-months-old and has been forced into a fight for his life. He is as fresh as a blooming flower to the world, unknown of the concepts of life. My son is currently fighting osteoporosis and a respiratory illness.

Osteoporosis causes bones to become weak and brittle — so brittle that a fall or even mild stresses such as bending over or coughing can cause a heavy fracture.

My first child Sanvi got diagnosed with the same disease and currently is facing mental hurdles. Yashavi has growth difficulties and has physically been rendered, extremely weak.

I worry thinking about how this might affect Yashavi in the long term.

Yashavi had been diagnosed with and is undergoing post-BMT complications.

He had undergone a transplant already but his condition kept on deteriorating. We tried endless measures but his life dangles, only supported by a ventilator.

“Mrs Lavanya, I’m afraid Yashavi hasn’t been responding well to the treatments. His body’s growing weaker by the day and has been rejecting all of our medication attempts. He’ll need to be put under the incubator for a few more weeks if he is to survive,” the doctors told me

Being too weak and too fragile to survive, he’d been left struggling by himself.

Our family has been forced into a state we’d never expected to go through.

We’ve spent countless days and nights, toiling away at work in order to be able to afford Yashavi’s medical bills, but to no avail.

The hospital had estimated that the costs for Yashavi’s treatment were going to be around Rs 12 lakh ($ 16398.71).

My husband’s a barber who barely earns enough for us to be able to put food on the table. An amount as large as this is simply heart wrenching.

“All Yashavi has known in life is pain. His life has been spent in one hospital room to another. Subjected to all sorts of horrifying treatments, his mind is starting to get affected by it.

I’m afraid my boy might not be able to cope with the stress he’s been put under at this stage of his life.” my husband Shiva grieved.

We’ve asked any living soul we could have for help, taken out loans and sold off our valuables. Yashavi’s treatment has been halted and we need help to be able to afford it.

Our son has yet to experience anything meaningful in life. He’s yet to experience the joys and the sadness that life brings with it.

He’s too young to know right from wrong or good from the bad. He deserves to have a chance at life, one that doesn’t impede him in any way.
