About the Fundraiser

Aditya was a fun-loving boy, just two years old and brimming with joy.  His mother had dreams in her eyes of enjoying what life had to offer. Her dreams, her aspirations ,and her longing for what future she hoped for her son have torn away in one swift splash of acid, thrown on her little boy by none other than the local goons whose advances she repeatedly shut down. It took away Aditya’s precious childhood and his mother continues to blame herself for something that never was her fault.

What happened to Aditya was brutal and wrong. We cannot be passerby pretending to not  hear the cry for help from Aditya and many others who have been brutalized by our  society and by our failure to protect them.

Acid Attack is a heinous crime. There should absolutely be  ZERO TOLERANCE for it. Many women in our country have been victims of this act. This  forbidden crime initially brings a full stop to the victim's life, her dreams, her happiness, her  aspirations, everything. This is a reflection of the patriarchal mindset of the society we live  in. Acid Attack is a Gender Based crime. 90% of survivors are women.

I knew what acid attack was, but the full ghastliness and soul-shattering impact of the  crime dawned on me when I came upon the Non-Profit Organization (NGO) called Make  Love Not Scars (MLNS). Since 2014, MLNS has been helping acid attack  victims providing them physical, mental, educational, psychological, support and monetary  aid to rebuild their lives and to live a life of dignity and fulfillment.

In August, 2015, MLNS started a campaign #End Acid Sale, in collaboration with the  creative agency Ogilvy and Mather where the NGO released a series of beauty tutorials  calling for a complete ban on over-the-counter sale of acid. The campaign led to a widely  supported petition to the Government of India to put a ban on over the counter Acid Sale.

MLNS has a rehabilitation center for the acid attack survivors that not only provides  medical care including multiple corrective surgeries, various implants and Food and  Lodging for the survivor and her accompanying family members but also provides  psychological help, love and assurance that helps the survivors overcome the trauma.  MLNS also takes care of the financial needs and all other expenses of the acid survivor.  They have been globally recognized for their contributions towards rebuilding the lives of  acid attack survivors.

All this costs money, in addition to significant volunteering effort.

This is a sincere appeal to all of you to help and support in the rebuilding of lives of women  who have survived the most horrific attacks. We need funds so that we can continue to  help rebuild the lives of the acid attack survivors. Please hear the pleas and contribute.
