Dear Friends,

As Maharashtra’s coronavirus count has spiked and hit the Mumbai Metropolitan region even harder this time around, the most marginalized are again bearing the brunt of the pandemic—from increasing job insecurity, wage cuts, to lack of food and essentials.

To support the city’s vulnerable population, we at Saayam Foundation are fundraising to help our on-ground NGO partner YUVA. All your donations will go to YUVA for the following initiatives:

I.                   Distributing ration kits to those most in need, basis our analysis of the ground situation. Each kit costs Rs 2,500 and contains rice, dal, atta, spices, and sanitation items - This will support a family of 5 for an entire month.

II.                 Running vaccination help desks to help increase awareness amongst vulnerable communities living in high population density areas in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and encourage them to register for the vaccine, as it remains the best way to overcome the virus.

The cost to run the help desk per month is Rs 45,000 including:

Rs 10,000 for basic infrastructure and safety expenses, Rs 15,000 for awareness generation via rickshaws, loudspeakers, etc., Rs 20,000 for community volunteers’ payment and insurance

Youth for Unity and Voluntary Action (YUVA) recently conducted a rapid situation analysis across communities (in slums, resettlement colonies, urban villages, homeless communities) in 4 Mumbai Metropolitan Region cities—Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Panvel, and Vasai–Virar. The findings reveal:

·       Nearly 55 percent households are currently single-earner households, with co-earners forced to stay home due to the closure of work sites, lack of transportation, etc.

·       Only 25 percent of surveyed construction workers, street vendors, domestic workers, and auto drivers are eligible for the government announced one-time relief of Rs 1,500.

·       Members of the homeless, transgender community, and single parents are vulnerable, with the majority being unable to work already.

·       Only 46 percent have received ration as per quota in the past 2 months.

We hope you will adopt a basti and lend power to these efforts. Your contributions to 'Together We Can' helped us address the hunger needs of over 10 lakh people across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) since March 2020. You can read more here: https://yuvaindia.org/covid-19-response/

Let’s work together to help the city’s most marginalized tide over the pandemic. #togetherwecan

*At the time of payment, our fundraiser requests for your PAN number if you are an Indian national - This is due to the Indian government's strict advisory on sharing the funding source for every donation, that we need to submit for a transparent audit. We thank you for your patience and understanding on this.*
