Help Powai’s slum children learn, eat, live better

The next academic year is about to begin in a few days. You can decide if a child living in the slums of Powai will have a chance to learn, eat and live a better life for the next year. LCCWA supported c.150 students last year. This year, they have managed to raise funds for only c.110 students. Can you help us ensure we don’t need to turn away any of Powai's needy children for the academic year 2018-19?

LCCWA (Logic Centre and Community Welfare Association), is an NGO started by ex-IIT Bombay professors and their family and friends. It provides supplementary education to under-privileged children from Powai. As some of you may know, it is usually difficult to convince parents living in slums about why they should send their children for better education initially. But the fact that LCCWA provides nutritious meals to children free of cost, acts as a significant incentive for parents.

In addition to education and food, LCCWA also provides regular medical check-ups, computer training and extra-curricular activities. All of this promises children a holistic support to become better citizens of the society. The alternative is going back to the slum environment of multiple negative influences – abusive language, tobacco / drugs, thief’s / criminals amongst others.

The cost of the support system provided by LCCWA is INR 12,000 per academic year or about INR 1,500 per month (excluding 3-4 months’ vacation around the year).

The duo of our very kind Professor Gupta and his wife Chaitali Ma’am are working hard to keep this centre working in the best shape possible. We wish to reduce some part of their burden; for those who don’t have the time to volunteer, we would be grateful if you could donate a small amount for the same. For those who may not know me directly, my name is Vatsal Mody and I am a Chartered Accountant working as an investment analyst in Mumbai. My wife and I have been working with the founder of Logic Centre over the last year or so, primarily to set up a good accounting and administrative system for the NGO. Every year Logic Centre sponsors around 150 student with their education and meal. But this year they have secured funds for only 110 students, I am trying to help them rasie funds for  at least 20 more students for academic year 2018-19.
