About the Fundraiser

ZARF is the cultural, technical and literary fest of Zakir Hussain College Of Engineering and Technology, A.M.U, Aligarh. It is organized every year inside the university campus.

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is an Indian central university. It was originally established by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan as Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College in 1875. The College then transformed into a fully fledged university named as Aligarh Muslim University in 1920. The main campus of AMU is located in the city of Aligarh.

Zarf’19 has a very rich history of fervor, breaking all the linguistic and regional barriers, irrespective of the branches it makes everyone come together once in a year. We create a cultural, literary and a technical hub by organizing a series of events varying from the engaging debates to singing and to the mind baffling quizzes. The varied activities provide the necessary exposure to the students ranging from the PhD graduates to the university board schools. With proper management and funding we create a social platform for people to showcase their skills and as a matter of fact, without an incentive or a token of encouragement,no person would push themselves to their limit, so we make sure that the people who are participating are doing it not just for fun but they will get recognition for it too. The basic theme of the fest is Charity. 50% of the registration fee and 20% of the sponsored amount will be donated as charity through proper channel for the welfare of needy people.

Its also a medium through which we reform the character of our university that's been portrayed, like we restrict the activities of the women in every field, as being a fest of Aligarh Muslim University. But on the contrary, according to our last year statistics, around half of the partakers, that is around 45% were the female students who were enrolled in a number of departments of the university. We firmly believe in the quintessential movement, that is Women Empowerment. The various students which came for various competitions earlier had their own perspectives regarding the university, but when they came here, and got the opportunity to interact with us and experience the aura of ZARF, they observed the optimistic side of the organizers, the charismatic influence they had on the audience while handling the crowd of thousands, the persistence they had no matter what the difficulty that came en route to the finale and a numerous other qualities. Irrespective of all these attributes we still are kept out of the sphere of the prestigious engineering institutions.

Our college also couldn't provide us with much funds though being the part of a central university, as the funds which was allocated for the university is reduced as compared to the inflation experienced by our country. Though being requested by the government numerous times to increase the fees, university declines the offer as it lay stress on the point of education for all through any means therefore ZARF is fully organised by the students side only.

Unlike  the different fests of the various engineering colleges like the IITs positioned all over India, ZARF is relatively young as it was started just in the year 2011 while the fest of IIT Bombay was first started as back as in 1971. Also Aligarh as compared to cities like Delhi and Mumbai, is not an industrial and business hub so the extent of the sponsorship we could afford is also heavily restricted. Therefore, we ain't able to arrange the necessitated resources for the fest to reach that level.

We are a team of 60 amiable and diligent members and along with 200 volunteers working day in and out, to achieve our goals with great coordination and perfection. ZARF represents our cultural ethos, technical expertise and literary proficiency. The preparation for ZARF starts in early February and reach it’s climax at the end of March. ZARF not only adds flavor to our college memories but also provide us with hand on experience in management and communicative fields.
