In 2020, Rashmi’s entire life was turned upside down.

Once a bright and happy student living with his little sister and parents, in a matter of months, the 15-year-old’s world crumbled around him as he now faces death.

Living in Kolkata with his family, Rashmi never knew how cruel his fate would end up being.

His father Santosh worked as a contractor and his mother was a housewife. Just like any other 15 year old, Rashmi went to school in the mornings and helped look after his 5-year-old sister in the evenings.

They didn’t have much, but nonetheless were a happy family, and were immensely proud of their son who always did well in school.

Unfortunately Rashmi’s mother passed away in April of 2020 in a shocking accident.

The young boy returned home after school one day to a devastated father, who informed him his mother had drowned in the local river and died on the spot.

From that moment on, everything changed for Rashmi and his family.

His father, Santosh, had a severe mental breakdown following his wife’s death. He was depressed and mentally unstable, and was asked to leave his job.

Unable to afford the rent and school fees any longer, Santosh sent his younger daughter to live with her grandparents. Not wanting to leave his poor father alone, Rashmi uprooted his life in Kolkata to follow Santosh to Jaipur as he looked for employment.

However, Santosh was continually denied jobs based on his mental condition. Living off of his few savings, Santosh and Rashmi were barely managing to get by.

Neither of them ever imagined that their situation could get worse than it already was.

Yet, in June of 2020, they received a second blow.

Rashmi was diagnosed with a life-threatening heart condition known as dilated cardiomyopathy.

Rashmi had been experiencing chest pain for a while. His hands and legs had been swelling up for days leading up to his diagnosis. In addition to this, even his stomach was bloated, and the young boy couldn’t eat anything or walk even a few steps.

When Santosh realised what was going on, he immediately rushed his son to the hospital where he was diagnosed.

After several tests, the doctors informed him that the only way to save Rashmi was to perform a heart transplant as soon as possible. The procedure would cost INR 23,00,000.00.

Santosh was left speechless. After losing his wife, he couldn’t bear the thought of losing his son too.

But due to his unemployment, he has no way to arrange such a large sum of money for Rashmi’s surgery.

Now, your donations are the last hope for this young boy and his family. They’ve already experienced a lifetime of grief. Without your help, they’ll be left shattered forever.
