“It all started with a small blister around her eye. She was watching TV and she kept rubbing her eyes. Farida saw her and scolded her. She stopped for 2 minutes and started again. And 4 months later look at her”, Mohammed Zosim says with tears in his eyes.
Diagnosed with Orbital RhabdomyoSarcoma (a type of rare cancer), my 5-year-old Tajrin is in immense pain. Her left eye is completely damaged and has lost its vision. It's swollen and appears to be infected.
December brought the worst news in our lives
The blister near her eye started to swell. It was becoming quite noticeable and my wife suggested that we take her to a nearby doctor.
“Being a farmer, I have to work during the day to provide food for my family so I asked her to take our daughter to the hospital alone.”
The next day the doctor asked us to have a seat in his clinic and explained our baby’s condition. He told us that she would have to undergo tests to be able to fully understand the reason for the swelling. He referred us to a bigger hospital.
We started to panic
My wife Farida also suffers from thalassemia and the little that is left of my earnings is used for her treatment. With hardly any savings, we borrowed some money from our family as the tests were expensive.
The reports left us horrified. The doctor told us our little girl is diagnosed with cancer. I brought her to Chennai for treatment as there was no treatment available back home. Here I was informed that she urgently needs chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery to cure her which would cost an exorbitant INR 20,00,000.00. I was shocked and left completely helpless.
On one hand we were scared to the core the moment we found out about our daughter’s cancer and on the other,we were panicking knowing the cost of treatment.
“We have never even been able to save more than a few thousand rupees in our lives, arranging lakhs is impossible for us.”
All we can do is pray and beg people for help. We are poor, but even poor people should be able to save their kids’ lives. Will never be able to forgive ourselves if something happens to our child because of our poverty.
The specifics of this case have been verified by the medical team at the concerned hospital. For any clarification on the treatment or associated costs, contact the campaign organizer or the medical team.
