There are an estimated 9 million Indian workers in GCC countries*, most of whom have low-skilled jobs with low wages. There is no denying that these people are bearing the brunt of the global pandemic the most. Loss of jobs, absence of any social support, and most importantly, being stuck in an unknown country, far away from home, in this time of crisis.
One of the many unfortunate people is Limba. The 35-year-old used to work as a garden cleaner in Dubai while his wife, Roja worked as a daily wage laborer in Telangana. With their collective incomes, the couple took care of their three kids.
However, with the outbreak of the global pandemic, both Limba and Roja have lost their jobs. While Limba is stuck in Dubai, his wife is taking care of their 13-year-old son, Vamshi who is battling between life and death.
The teenager is suffering from a severe blood disorder and needs a bone marrow transplant urgently, which his jobless parents are unable to afford.
Back in October 2019, Vamshi suffered a high fever which didn't subside for 15 days. When Roja took him to the hospital, he was admitted. It was found out that his blood platelet count was very low. Vamshi underwent a blood transfusion and was discharged in a week, but a month later, he fell sick again.
Upon consulting multiple doctors and undergoing numerous tests, it was found out the young boy is suffering from aplastic anemia, an autoimmune disease in which the body fails to produce enough blood cells.
Since then, his poor parents are struggling to provide for his treatment. Vamshi, a class 6th student, has suffered a lot during the course of these few months. He couldn’t get regular blood transfusions owing to his parents’ poverty. Because of that, his health deteriorated substantially and he had to drop out of school.
According to the doctors, Vamshi can recover with a bone marrow transplant. Luckily, Srisha, Vamsi’s elder sister is found the perfect match to be donor, but their poor parents have no means to arrange INR 15,00,000.00 required for the surgery.
Now, all Roja can do is silently watch her child suffer and curse her poverty while her helpless husband is struggling to arrange funds in an unknown country. The family’s future is uncertain as they don’t know if they’ll even be able to provide food to their children in the coming days.
With your little help, Vamshi will be able to live a healthy life. Don’t let the family’s poverty take their child away. Please donate generously and support the child’s life-saving transplant.
The specifics of this case have been verified by the medical team at the concerned hospital. For any clarification on the treatment or associated costs, contact the campaign organizer or the medical team.
