Yellowish skin, swollen stomach and weakness like I’ve never seen before - these were the first signs that my 8-year-old daughter was very very sick.
We took her to the hospital where we got the worst news: her liver is failing, causing bleeding and jaundice. Without a transplant, she may die. Both her father and I can donate part of our liver, but the surgery is expensive and complicated. The total cost for both surgeries is 15 lakhs ($16914). So far, we have spent 7 lakhs on her treatment but it wasn't enough. Every day that passes without help leaves us feeling desperate and terrified. Yuktha is God’s gift to me, and I can’t let her die.
It all started when Yuktha was three. She had been a lively, happy child until she began getting weak and tired easily. I remember holding her in my arms, thinking how lucky we were to have such a bright, happy child. But when she turned three, things started to change. She became weak, tired easily, and lost her usual sparkle.
Tests revealed that her liver was failing. The doctors explained that only a transplant could save her life. I still remember standing in the hospital room, feeling numb, hearing the words,“Your daughter will not survive without urgent surgery.” I wanted to scream, to cry, to do anything to take away her pain.
We had to leave our home in Karnataka and move to Bangalore for treatment. Everything familiar, our house, our neighborhood, our lives, was left behind. My husband works as a mechanic, earning 20,000 rupees a month, which was enough to support our family modestly before this crisis. But now, with my little girl fighting for her life, that income is nowhere near enough. Every day is a struggle to manage basic living costs alongside her urgent medical expenses. We are living in the hospital waiting room, surrounded by machines and constant fear, watching our little girl struggle to eat, to breathe, to simply live.
She can’t play, can’t eat properly, can’t live like a normal child. Both her father and I are suitable donors, but the cost of surgery for both of us is 15 lakhs ($16914). We have already spent 7 lakhs, borrowing from friends, using our savings, pledging our gold, and we still need help. We have no help from relatives. The doctors have explained that she has severe liver disease causing bleeding and jaundice. Without a transplant, her life is at risk. Every day, I watch my daughter struggle with something that no child should ever have to face. I see her pain, and it tears me apart.
Her younger brother, Akun, clings to her hand and asks, “Maa, will she be okay?” I have to hold back tears as I tell him, “Yes beta, she will be okay.” But inside, my heart is breaking. My husband has worked hard all his life as a mechanic, earning enough to support our family, but nothing could prepare us for this fight for Yuktha’s life.
All I want is to see my daughter live. I want her to go to school, play with friends, grow up healthy, and fulfill her dreams. I dream of seeing her become a doctor and help other children like her. She is my hope, my heart, my reason to keep going.
I am begging, pleading with anyone who can help us. Your support can save Yuktha. Every donation, every share, every prayer brings us closer to giving her a chance at life. Please, help us save my daughter. She is too young, too brave, too precious to lose. Help Yuktha live.
