About the Fundraiser

The high-intensity fire that started on Saturday in  in the Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka has destroyed more than 1,000 hectares of forest. The fire ravaged Moleyuru, Kalkere and Hediyala forest ranges in the north western parts of the reserve and almost spread to the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary in Kerala.

Our brave forest guards and locals have been battling day and night in intense heat and smoke to get the fire under control for the last 4 days and are still continuing to risk their lives to save our forest and the animals inside as the fire is still on!

1 forest guard has lost his life and 4 others have sustained serious burn injuries. Many others who are still fire fighting are suffering from dehydration, burns, lack of food supplies and other smoke and heat related medical issues.

We need your urgent help to deliver simple basic food and medicines like rice, buns, pickle, jaggery, tender coconut water, electrolytes to almost 600 people engaged in this massive firefighting operation.

Your donations will be passed on to our partner NGO - Bandipur Reserve Foundation, which looks after the welfare of  around 600 temporary guards at the Bandipur reserve. The foundation will purchase the material locally and provide to the forest guards battling the fire.

Your donations will be tax exempt and you can get a 80 certificate against your donation.

We urge you to donate urgently and generously in this hour of emergency.

Kind Regards,

TUWS Team
