FUNDING TREATMENT OF WOMEN
Annually the Foundation pays for the treatment of 250 – 300 women diagnosed with Breast, Cervical & Ovarian Cancers and who are unable to afford the costs of their treatment at the Tata Memorial Hospital but have a great chance of recovery. These women belong to the lower socio-economic strata of society who come to Tata Memorial Hospital from all over India. To date, the foundation has supported the treatment costs of over 2000 women.
FUNDING RESEARCH PROJECTS
The Tata Memorial Hospital is India’s premier research institute in finding cancer causes and cures. In keeping with the Aims & Objectives, the Foundation has sponsored several research projects undertaken by various specialists.
AWARENESS AND SCREENING CAMPS
We conduct awareness and cancer screening camps for women on a regular basis with the Department of Preventive Oncology at Tata Memorial and at various other areas, in Maharashtra where we provide this service free to women mainly from the lower socio-economic stratas.
BREAST & GYNAECOLOGICAL CANCER SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS
The foundation holds support group meetings for women with cancer who are financially supported by WCI and their families on the first Friday of every month. Moderated by Dr. Jalali, Dr Sirohi and Mrs. Devieka Bhojwani with the help of social workers from the Tata Memorial Hospital, the meetings are conducted in Hindi, Marathi and English in an especially reserved room at the hospital. The meetings provide an opportunity for patients and their families to ask questions about their cancers, their treatment, and the side effects of their treatment and address any other concern, in an informal setting. In this forum, patients also get a chance to interact with doctors, social workers and each other in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere giving them the much needed psychological support as well as valuable advice and insights These meetings have become a great success with the group growing from 50 to over 100 patients. A great bonding and sharing takes place where the women and their families attending get the emotional support and strength from interacting in this unique forum.
