About the Fundraiser

“ I wish I could have done more for her. Her life has been nothing but struggle. She hasn’t known many happy moments. She never had a chance to taste childhood. When we were getting on the plastic boat, I heard her say something that broke my heart. She saw her mother being crushed by the crowd, and she screamed: 'Please don't kill my mother! Kill me instead!' " (Lesvos, Greece)

    Letters of Love is a global initiative, seeking collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees - Gaziantep , Turkey , that aims at providing winter essentials to the tens of thousands of trauma inflicted refugee children , displaced from Syria in the community centres in South-West Turkey, as New Year gifts, through it's fundraiser , " To Syria, With Warmth " .

Feel most welcome to be a part of our family at :
 Born out of a 23-year old Indian girl's sleepless nights and acute restlessness of wanting to make a difference , however little, post HONY's coverage of the refugees spread across Europe , she, along with a network of enthusiastic altruists dedicated to the same cause from all around the world ( including USA , UK , Netherlands, Singapore , Australia , Dubai , Saudi Arabia , Kuwait , Qatar and India ofcourse ) insists that you gift warmth to a child by simply donating a fraction of your precious time , money and heart and help the little one , who fled from his home with nothing but himself in his tattered worn-out clothes, bear the brunt of a biting winter that is fast approaching .

At the onset of an exodus that has uprooted more than 11 million people from their own homeland by inhumane acts of terror, the Syrian refugee crisis is one of the most gruelling humanitarian challenges we have ahead of us today. What makes it all the more worse is the very fact that 7.5 million, which is more than half of the total refugees having fled from Syria , are innocent little children who are bearing the repercussions of a war they surely didn't start. Dystopia is something that incessantly prevails in today's world. We have read about the torture, viewed videos painstakingly, shared them amongst our network; but what difference have you really made ?!

"To Syria , With Warmth. "
, Letters of Love's fundraiser hopes to raise enough funds to buy winter essentials like a pair of woollen socks or a cozy sweater that could help these little ones survive the brunt of the biting winter the region has which averages to a freezing 1 degree celcius !! We wish to tie up with a local clothing/ amenities distributor as will be directed by UNHCR authorities and thereby transfer our funds and ensure useful supplies are provided to all the children . This also ensures transparency of the transactions of attained funds and also materialisation that ensures appropriate usage of the same. Fundraiser shall carry on till December end and transferred to the respective organisations by New Years .

Ever thought of living your young years in utter fear all day , all night ; seeing family and friends shot down ; homes burnt ; parents tortured the most inhumane ways ; starving for weeks without food or water ; succumbing to blasts and other acts of terror ; leaving everything behind but the clothes that you're wearing and the bit of life you have, fleeing to another country which is a battle on it's own ; INSTEAD of playing dollhouse , doing math homework , hide and seek with friends , going to school , a game of soccer or going out for a movie with family ??

~ The Syrian Civil War began with the arrests of a handful of children in 2011. Since then it has exploded into the biggest humanitarian crisis since the Second World War.

This is Syria's tragic story chronologically put in 6 points -

(1.) February 2011: Amidst peaceful pro-democracy protests , a group of children in Daraa, southern Syria, are arrested and allegedly tortured for scrawling graffiti on a school reading, "the people want to topple the regime."

(2.) March 2011: Outrage over the arrests turns into protests and a brutal crackdown with the government forces opening fire at the masses, killing dozens mercilessly .

(3.) July 2011: The armed opposition gets organised as the government crackdown intensifies, a group of Syrian military officers defect and form the Free Syrian Army. In a video posted on YouTube, they say thousands of soldiers have left their posts instead of firing on protesters, and they promise to wage guerrilla war against regime forces. Three months later, a handful of political opposition groups establish the Syrian National Council, aimed at toppling President Bashar al-Assad. Thousands of refugees flee for their lives with nothing but most of their own selves .
By mid-July , the first refugee camp of the UNHCR is set up at Za'atari, , Jordan (Syria's immediate neighbour )
{ Number of Syrians dead : 60,000 }

(4.) Spring 2013: The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) announces its arrival in northern Syria byseizing the city of Raqqa. The aim of ISIS -- led by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi -- is to impose its psychopathic and inhumane ideologies in the name of Islam on Syrians in the areas it controls. Peace talks by UN yield no positive results .
Lakhs of refugees flee to Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon, Greece and the rest of the european countries .
{ Number of Syrians dead : 1,40,000 }

(5.) June 2014: ISIS announces the establishment of a caliphate (Islamic state) stretching from western Syria to eastern Iraq. The group rebrands itself Islamic State and says Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is the leader of this new state. The declaration comes after SIS seizes Mosul, Iraq's second biggest city. Peace talks by UN , warnings and consequent ambush and airstrikes by the US and European military yield no positive results .
{Number of Syrians dead : 2,20,000 }
Millions of refugees flee to Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon, Greece and the rest of the european countries .

(6.) September 30, 2015: After weeks of bulking up its military presence in Syria, Russia launches airstrikes on rebel targets in the country for the first time.
{ Number of Syrians dead : 3,80,000 }
Total number of (registered) Syrian refugees have reached a shocking 4 million with an estimate of 11 million displaced and in need of dire help , both inside and outside Syria !!

    According to the U.N., more than half of all Syrian refugees are under the age of 18. Most have been out of school for months, if not years. The youngest are confused and scared by their experiences, lacking the sense of safety and home they need. The older children are forced to grow up too fast, finding work and taking care of their family in desperate circumstances. The refugees are all reaping the consequences of a war they didn't start!

Let's not be part of the world that watched their homes burn down , who watched their lives crumble as they struggle; who watched young dreams of growing up in a peaceful world shatter into fragments of terror . Let's not be the part of the world that stood there , silently watching their worlds becoming rotten hell .
Let's be that part , they'd want to remember with a smile . Let's be that part that cares . Let's be that part that loves . Let's be that part they deserve rightfully . Let's be the better world !!
