About the Fundraiser

About me:

While most parents put their kids to bed with bedtime stories, my dad used to read out some of the most fascinating stories to me from “The National Geographic” magazine and acquainted me to varied cultures beyond our horizons. I grew up as an army kid, schooled in 13 schools all across India, which deeply instilled in me the similarities that make us all human overriding the differences of the varied cultures. I knew I wanted to experience this diversity that each one of us bring to the world and tell stories; if not with words, then maybe with images? And so I pursued a career in Travel and lifestyle photography.

With this dream, I founded Art Leaves A Mark. My body of work include ‘India: Change The Perception’ and ‘The Archive Series’ amongst others. My personal projects have been featured on Buzzfeed, NDTV, Condé Nast Traveller, and Vogue India. A TEDx speaker, I also am a part of Sir Robert Swan’s International Expedition to Antarctica 2016.

About the Cause:

‘2041’ was founded by polar explorer, environmental leader and public speaker Robert Swan, OBE, who dedicated his life to the preservation of Antarctica by the promotion of recycling, renewable energy and sustainability. Currently there is a moratorium in place that bans drilling or mining in Antarctica called the Environmental Protocol, established in 1991. This document will be reviewed after 50years in 2041. As the year 2041 quickly approaches, Robert’s goal is to ensure that the young people of today make informed and sustainable decisions for tomorrow.

I'm one of the few handpicked from across the world to join Sir Robert Swan for the expedition under the ‘Leadership on the edge’ program. Having being granted the opportunity to gain a firsthand knowledge of the continent’s fragile ecosystem, experience the unique Antarctic wildlife and observe its magnificent landscape. During these expeditions, 1500 tones of twisted metal and garbage has been recovered over 8 years, all of which has been recycled. The Expedition also brings together people from across the globe with the guidance of researchers, to debate, discuss and determine firsthand the effects of climate change.

The purpose for this Antarctic Expedition is to engage and inspire the next generation of leaders to take responsibility to build resilient communities, be sustainable, and know that now is the time for action in policy development and sustainable business generation, through the promotion of recycling, renewable energy, and sustainability. Robert swan and the expedition team's core belief is that if we get this right, we can preserve the Antarctic.

I have always endeavoured to boldly take a stand on the causes I believe in and express it through my work. I see this expedition as a huge opportunity to tell ‘The Story of Antarctica’ and bring about awareness though the kind of work I do.

Costs and Numbers:

The cost of the expedition is approximately INR 13,21,100 which includes airfare, the expedition fee, room on board and the necessary gear to embark on this expedition. I am looking to raise INR. 6,50,000 via crowdfunding towards the expedition fee.
