About the Fundraiser

Project Proposal - Dream Camp :

This funding proposal is for our Dream Camp Programme, which is key to ensuring that children in shelters are able to dream and invest in the future, cope with new experiences and get a chance to have a holiday.

Dream Camps primarily focus on helping children gain self motivation by understanding and connecting with their dreams through personal transformation and to gain experiential self confidence through exposure to new experiences to things that they have not encountered before. It provides them with an opportunity to take a break from the strict routine they follow everyday.

Programme Summary:

Dream Camps primarily focus on helping children gain self motivation by understanding and connecting with their dreams through personal transformation and to gain experiential self confidence through exposure to new experiences to things that they have not encountered before. It provides them with an opportunity to take a break from the strict routine they follow everyday.

Program mission and goals :

Dream Camp’s core mission is to address the issue of low motivation by making them believe in their dreams and increasing self confidence that would pave a path for them to continue their education as they would believe in themselves.

The minimum goal for this programme is therefore to ensure that they have a dream for themselves and have set goals for themselves to pursue it. This growth plays a pivotal role on both their self-esteem as well as confidence to make decisions with respect to their education and employability.

Through the Dream Camp Programme we have been able to inspire children to think beyond the above mentioned framework and make practical life choices. This enables them to cope up with new experiences and take ownership of themselves like never before.

How It Works:

Dream Camp is a unique program designed to ensure children in shelter homes receive the quality of support and one-on-one attention required to boost their self confidence and build out their dreams and aspirations that act as a source for self motivation. The Dream Camp sessions are delivered by high potential volunteers who are already mentors to the children in existing MAD programs. These volunteers are provided with training on session delivery and facilitation.

The program supports children from grade 5 to grade 10 and is implemented once a year for a period of 2-3 days for a set of children in a city. Each camp at max has about 100 children and in cities where we are larger in number, conduct multiple camps. Our sessions are designed to drive personal transformation to increase a child’s confidence and personal goal setting ability.

Sessions :

Our sessions are divided into two types : One called “Plenary Sessions”, that primarily aims to increase the motivation of the child and second called “Experience Sessions” , that primarily focus providing exposure to the children to build out their confidence to be able to cope up with situations that is different from their usual environment.

Plenary Sessions: These sessions have been delivered by Dream A Dream, an established life skills organisation in the social space for almost 8 years now. They have adopted the personal transformation model from an International Youth Organisation who have scientifically developed it. We have adopted 4 sessions from them that we deliver every camp to our children.

Experience Sessions: There are two types of experience sessions, both targeted to improve the self confidence of the child. The first of these sessions are designed on the rationale that the children have never seen/done before session/activities so they will be challenged in a positive direction to build confidence. These generally need to be low risk but out of the ordinary. For this we reach out to the volunteers mentoring the children in other programs of MAD to understand their exposure level. The second type of experience sessions are designed on the rationale, that it needs to feel like a holiday for children, a place to be free and have fun. This is ensured by providing a choice to children to sign up for the activity they prefer in turn helping them learn decision-making.

We also have an introductory session that helps children understand the purpose of dream camps. It also acts as ice breaking and bonding session between the mentors and the children with whom they are to spend the next 3-4 days with.
