About the Fundraiser

Our story

Hey, everyone! We - Kowsalya, Manishankar, Shoeb and Anand would like to tell you a little bit about ourselves and why we are doing this fund raising for Home Of Hope, an NGO which is impacting thousands of destitute lives living on streets across Karnataka. We, four of us met at IIM Bangalore primarily because we had no other choice as classmates and project mates, and our 'will' to do something for the betterment of the society spurted out often in our discussions. That 'will' took us to Home of Hope, where we engage with their existential problems and much more, helping them to plan new projects and improve their existing activities. We are undertaking this fundraising at this moment to help them build a better future for the lives they are engaging with.

Cause and the NGO

Home of Hope, a hospice that helps to give a new life to the castaways on the street, is about half-hours drive from the heart of the city of Bangalore. The Home is an active wing of New Ark Mission of India, an NGO founded by Thomas Raja, popularly known as Auto Raja. Home of Hope is not just a roof for the destitutes, but a ‘home’ in its true sense, helping them to live like a member of a loving family, as loved and lovable human beings.

What are we going to do?

Home of Hope works with a single motto to make Indian streets free from destitute. It picks up homeless people irrespective of their physical and mental condition, bring them to their home and provide them with shelter, care, and medication. Every month at least 10-15 people are rescued and brought to the home. The people rescued often suffer from acute illnesses such as AIDS, Cancer and Kidney failures. The Government authorities also bring in such patients to their facilities regularly.

One of the important constraints that Home of Hope faces at this point in time is the lack of hospital beds for the people suffering from illnesses for their hospital unit. They have the support of doctors and nurses in treating those patients, however the infrastructural constraints requires the patients to lie on the floors that brings with itself several other illnesses. The one way that we think will make the situation better is to provide them with hospital beds.

Our plan is to raise funds to buy hospital beds that will enable better recovery of the patients and also help in their comfort.

BUDGET: Every hospital bed costs Rs. 9000 and 23 hospital beds costs Rs. 200000. This is partially fulfilling their requirement of 50 hospital beds.
