days to go
So happy to let you know that our top three spots for the OUR EXPANDING UNIVERSE reward have all been grabbed up! We are so grateful to Suresh P Jain, Dr. Who (who would like to remain anonymous), and Cactus for their immense contribution!
By popular demand we've added a new reward category THE SPACE ABOVE of 25,000 INR bundling up 'Solar System to Scale', Limited Edition SOS17 T-shirts custom designed by @diyasarker and @thebigfatminimalist in black or white to your size, a custom designed DIY Origami Kit by Shivaram Ananthanarayan, and a 360 web-based VR walkthrough of the Story of Space Festival!
Patrons and friends, a hearty thank you from the entire team here! We're reached 5,00,000 (INR) through our networks. We still have 6,00,000 INR to go and would appreciate if you can serve as ambassadors for the cause of interdisciplinary, informal learning initiatives, and spread the word through your networks---whatsapp, email, facebook, twitter, instagram, linked in, temple friends, friends at the pub, yoga buddies, Sunday church, building neighbours (you get the idea) to see the campaign to its goal!
With much love and regards,
The Story of Space Team
Jaya, one of the co-directors, recently wrote up a small piece on the economics behind our last festival and how it led to making the budgets for this one. https://blog.thestoryof.org/the-story-of-light-festival-freeconomics-de4f9f8d5454
By running this campaign, we'd like to reach out to the community, both in India and internationally, who would like to see more opportunities that show the bigger, interconnected picture, who'd like to see a change in what and how we learn and know, and who'd like to see more independent initiatives being empowered to bring positive changes to society. This is essentially a community-led service for the community, and we're trying to keep the festival format free, inviting and accessible--so your support has been critical.
Thank you and look forward to your comments!
The Story Of Space Team
THE STORY OF SPACE 2017 is an interdisciplinary experience that explores space under the thematics of physics, philosophy, politics, and perception, and the intersections thereof. We engage artists, scientists, educators, and philosophers to create informal learning experiences for all ages that culminates into a 10 day festival.
The festival will take place from 10 to 19 November across multiple locations in Panjim city, Goa. It is FREE to attend for all.

We received 260 proposals through an invited and open call in 2016. We shortlisted 53 of them based on the concept, learning impact, experiential opportunity, and feasibility. Each proposal includes multiple learning opportunities such as installations, live experiences, workshops, and talks. The program is designed with a something for everyone approach targeted at various age groups and demographics. Perspectives from 19 countries are represented in the entire program, with 50% of the participation from India.
We’ve also focused on a balance between academic, artistic, and interdisciplinary interventions to enable rich exchanges for the future.
Where will the funds go?
We are a not-for-profit, volunteer-run project. Here is a breakdown of the festival budget. We aim to raise 20% of the festival's in-cash budget through this campaign.
‘The Story Of’ Foundation began in a house in Goa — as a platform of scientists, artists, designers, philosophers, and educators interested in positive changes in society through informal education. Those relationships and aims continue today. We are registered under The Societies Registration Act 1860 since November 2014. We are volunteer-run and our general circle and selection committee includes stakeholders across science, art, philosophy, education, and the Goa community.
