Nakul Thampi – The Best Is Yet to Come..!

    Nakul Thampi

Nakul Thampi is a seasoned dancer and an up-and-coming actor. He was Second Runners Up in Mazhavil Manorama’s reality television show D3 D4Dance, a finalist in D3 D4Dance Reloaded, and a contestant in Asianet’s Munch Dance.

On 5 January 2020, Actor Nakul Thampi, age 20 years was returning home (Trivandrum) from a road trip with friends suffered a traumatic and critical brain injury, including a dislocated hip clavicle, and nasal fracture. The car he was moving in collided with an approaching bus near Madurai, Tamil Nadu. As Nakul had been sitting in the car’s front passenger seat, unfortunately, he endured the most brutal impact during the accident.

He was rushed to the nearest hospital (Leonard Hospital) for first aid and emergency care. He was later taken to Velammal Medical College Hospital and Research Institute, Madurai (more specifically, VMC Specialty Hospital) for higher medical administration and had been admitted.

It had been around four weeks since the accident, and Nakul hadn’t opened his eyes yet.

Dr Ganesh Kumar, a renowned neurosurgeon, had diagnosed Nakul with Diffuse Axonal Injury – Grade 3. It was a detrimental type of traumatic brain injury involving tearing the brain’s long connecting nerve fibers (axons), injuring the brain as it shifts and rotates inside the bony skull. The treatment modality for his brain injury was conservative management. The orthopaedic team had assessed Nakul for the need for hip surgery once he regained consciousness.

Nakul’s family learned from the doctor that he was slowly recovering. However, the doctors gave no definite timeline for Nakul’s complete recovery, which involved his rehabilitation and post-trauma care.

Those days were like an unkind battle and an emotional turmoil for his parents and himself. Nakul’s brother expressed his feelings quoting, “My usually restless and jaunty brother being bedridden in the ICU every day had been the most disconcerting reality of our lives.” Every day, his family would pray and hope that Nakul would wake up.

Nakul’s elder brother further added that his friends and acquaintances alike attest that he is one bundle of joy, a fiercely loyal friend, one who cares intensely, connects instantly, and perceives the best in oneself. He is one of the thoughtful and most fond boys ever known. Nakul’s family had spent over INR 7,00,000/- by exhausting Nakul’s medical insurance and their savings.

In the next 15 days, Nakul needed INR 12,00,000/- more for further treatment. Nakul and his entire family were immensely grateful for all the support, prayers, and good wishes they had received from individuals that helped raise funds on Ketto, contributing a massive amount towards his treatment.

The family and Nakul thanked each of them for standing firm with him in his time of need. The donors on Ketto helped raise this amount with determination and love.

Given this opportunity we at Ketto would like to take a moment here, wishing Nakul Thampi a speedy recovery, and hope to see you back in action once more. After all, ‘Brighter days are ahead of us, and the comeback is always greater than the setback.’
