Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) is a government initiative that provides free, quality antenatal care to pregnant women on the 9th of every month at government health facilities. The scheme ensures that every pregnant woman – regardless of economic background – has access to at least one comprehensive antenatal check-up during the second or third trimester of pregnancy.

Key Features of Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan

PMSMA provides free antenatal care on the 9th of every month, services including ultrasound, blood tests, iron and calcium supplements, and blood pressure monitoring. Services are offered at PHCs, CHCs, and district hospitals. High-risk pregnancies are identified and tracked for follow-up. Private obstetricians and gynaecologists also volunteer services on PMSMA days.

    How Ketto Supports Maternal Healthcare

While PMSMA covers antenatal care, families sometimes face unexpected costs during delivery or neonatal care. Crowdfunding for medical bills has helped many families cover delivery complications, NICU stays, and post-natal care costs. For BPL families looking for structured support, the Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK) provides free delivery, C-section, and neonatal care and can be used alongside PMSMA.
