Quote- Karishma Mehta- Founder - Humans of Bombay

How would you feel, if the only safe haven you know, the only place you can call home, was in danger of being snatched away from you? It's a scary thought, isn't it? It's scary to not have a place to call your own, to be roofless and at the mercy of the elements and the world, for we know well that they can both be hostile and vicious.

However, a few months ago, young girls from the NGO Kranti were faced with such a situation. The possibility was a terrifying one, for, apart from losing domestic comforts, for these girls, it also meant losing the only place that could offer them help and happiness. The young girls we are talking about here are daughters of sex workers. Each one of them has had a difficult past, and thanks to the narrow-mindedness of society, is struggling in the present too. They are struggling to overcome their pasts, gain an education and respect, and build a life for themselves. The NGO Kranti is playing a big role in encouraging and assisting them on this path of renewal and growth. At Kranti, they find love, support and above all acceptance, and that is why this organization means the world to them.

Kranti

But, we know how unpredictable and cruel the Wheel of Fortune can be, right? A few months ago, the young girls of Kranti were thrown out of their house by a landlord who refused to pay them back their deposit. Overnight, they had nowhere to go and no roof over their heads. They were faced with the disturbing possibility of having to go back to where they came from, to that world that constantly threatens to steal their innocence and extinguish forever their dreams of enjoying a regular, prosperous life. They were desperately in need of help, but where would this help come from? Was there anyone who cared enough about their plight to actually do something about it?

Turns out, the answer is yes! To help these girls out, a crowdfunding campaign was started. This online donation drive, started by Ketto and supported by Humans of Bombay, aimed to gather enough funds to help build a new home for these girls. Was the campaign successful? Well, let's just say you'll be surprised what honestly good intentions, combined with a bit of ingenuity and the power of the internet can do. As soon as the appeal was made, donations began to pour in, and within a few weeks, over 5, 00,000 rupees was collected. This amount was then handed over to Kranti to be used for constructing a new home for these girls, this time a more permanent one.

Has this incident made you wonder at the power of crowdfunding campaigns? Has it diminished your skepticism in it, at least a bit? Well it should! For these online donation drives have proven to be quite successful. Time and again people have reached out to fellow internet users for help and have never been disappointed, and that's because most of us are dying to do good for a fellow human being, but our hectic lives often deprive us of the opportunity. So, when something like this pops up in our emails or newsfeeds, we grab the opportunity with both hands and a generous heart!

So, make hay while the sun shines! Raise funds for your cause. Let's harness the power of the internet to give back to society and the world!
